Guiding Families Through the Special Education Process
When a child needs help, time is important.
When schools begin observing a child for possible learning, behavioral, or developmental concerns, families often enter a complex process that includes evaluations, meetings, and multiple decision points. Teachers may share concerns, additional supports may be discussed, and schools may begin gathering information to determine whether a child could benefit from special education services. While schools work through these steps, parents are frequently left without clear guidance on what they can do to support their child during this time.
The SEN Program provides structured navigation and guidance for families during this stage. We help parents understand how the school evaluation process works, what different terms and steps mean, and how to prepare for conversations with teachers and school teams. By helping families organize questions, track concerns, and better understand the process, we make it easier for parents to participate confidently in decisions related to their child’s education.

Our role is to ensure families have support while schools determine whether special education services are appropriate. The SEN Program connects parents with helpful resources, explains available options, and helps families communicate clearly with educators as the process unfolds. With the right guidance, families can move through this period with greater clarity and confidence while their child receives the attention and consideration they need.
